Since the mid-eighties, north side hot dog aficionados have had the opportunity to visit this clean, yet nostalgic looking hot dog emporium in the heart of the ever popular and trendy near north side of Chicago. It’s like a visit back in time to our perception of those great storefront stands of the fifties. Living right next door, like the now fashionable “apartment over the store” sort of thing, Bill Murphy has created and nurtured a more hands on sense for his business and the community. With his wife and daughters close by, Bill is able to get his business, family and neighborhood activities all in one. It wasn’t even that long ago when Bill had his fifteen minutes of fame, when he was tapped to be the role model for an American hot dog chain in Japan. The Murphy concept and all-American face on signs in Japan was a vision to behold.
Those thrilling days of yesteryear are memories now; but the food is the key. With those jumbo grilled polish sausages and Vienna Beef hot dogs as a lead to a very popular menu including a unique and colorful array of condiments to compliment every sandwich and salad creation. Being located just a few blocks from Wrigley Field; it’s a great place to carry out from this true Chicago eatery when going to the ball game; as many savvy fans continue to do.
And now, it is with great pride and our pleasure that we acknowledge and congratulate Bill, his staff and family and welcome Murphy’s to the Vienna Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame. We extend best wishes and much continued success from the entire Vienna Beef family.
